It’s so easy to get wrapped up in our day-to-day, that we rarely take the time to reflect on where we are, how we got here and where we’re headed. It’s two months into 2012, and outside of setting a broad sweeping New Year’s resolution, what kind of goals have you really targeted for the year? And by goals, I’m talking both personally and professionally.
If you have set some goals for 2012, how are you moving toward them? Have you started to take action on them yet, have you thought about the specifics of getting them done? How much time have you put into analyzing your environment? On a professional level, what’s next for you? Where do you want to take your career, how have you defined success, are you living up to the goals you set for yourself and most importantly, are you staying true to you? Are you grateful, happy, content, unhappy or miserable? Or are you stuck in the middle?
If you haven’t taken more than a fleeting moment to think about your goals for 2012, think about setting aside 2 hours of your time to really reflect on where you are. It’s a life changing experience. You may be successful, but at what cost? Are you happy, are those around you happy? Use the time to think about where you want to go professionally. Start thinking three to five years out and plan backwards. What steps can you take today to set the foundation for tomorrow? Think about the people that you can reach out to for help; you’re not in this alone. Moving forward isn’t a solo event, it requires that you network and plan appropriately.
